Update from our Interim Rector – September 3, 2021

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus…And my God will meet all your needs in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7, 19

Dear People of St. Luke’s,
I know that you are anxious for this interim process to produce our new Rector. Certainly, all of us will rejoice on the day when the new Rector arrives. Yet I want to reassure that you that though this process is a lengthy one; there is good reason for this. We have been told to expect it can happen in anywhere from nine to eighteen months. During this time, the three Commissions will meet, each doing their proscribed work in order to produce the right match for our congregation
The good news is that we are right on track in that process! The first Commission, called “Discovery and Discernment,” has been working very hard on our behalf. Please read the letter from Lauren Crawford, the Chair of that Commission in this Epistle. She outlines their timetable and tells you what to expect next.
Meanwhile, Pastor Jim and I and Lauree Birchmeier attended a Day of Orientation for people in new positions in the Diocese. It was a positive experience to meet all of the people who work closely with the Bishop as they minister to the people of all the congregations and ministries of the Diocese of AZ. I look forward to getting to know them better during this time of transition. I have asked two of them to come and share their expertise with us here at St. Luke’s. I am actively seeking to strengthen our ties with the Diocese.
Next week we will begin our Christian Education Programs and classes for all ages. You may sign up at any of our Worship Services. Our midweek Wednesday Healing Service begins this this Wednesday, September 8th, and is preceded by a Discussion of the lectionary Scriptures for the coming week which begins at 9:00 and ends at 9:40.
A one day Women’s Retreat is scheduled for October 30th at Chapel Rock. Our Membership Commission has also been hard at work. A Newcomer’s Luncheon has been scheduled for Sunday, September 19th at 11:30 a.m. Invitations will go out soon.
Keep your prayers coming for all clergy, Vestry, Staff and Leaders of St. Luke’s numerous ministries. You can be certain that God is is listening to our prayers, petitions and especially those of thanksgiving during this time.
