Children’s Ministry

Children’s Ministry:

Sunday School/Discovery : We meet every Sunday at 9:45am. The children return to their parents at the 10:00 am service, when the Peace is offered.

The lessons for the Children’s class are Bible-centered, and are based on one of the scripture readings appointed for each Sunday of the Liturgical Calendar. The reason we use this format is so that parent and child will be hearing the same Bible readings, and have the opportunity to discuss what was learned in the classroom if they choose to do so.

The focus of each lesson is a single concept or theme from the reading, using everyday objects.  It is supplemented with an art or craft activity.  There are also games, snacks, discussion and prayer.

Additionally we work toward the memorization of the “Lord’s Prayer” with meaning and understanding through “hands on” activities similar to those mentioned above.

The supplemental materials used for the lesson plans are taken from the website, “Sermons for Kids”.  This is a free, liturgy-based program that provides an object lesson, supplemental materials and suggested activities. I also draw from past lessons developed from 40+ years of experience as an early childhood teacher and director working in Christian Schools and Christian Education.

Godly Play:

“Children have an inmate sense of the presence of God.

The Godly Play approach helps them to explore their faith through story to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience through wonder and play.

Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum the Godly Play method serves children through early, middle and late childhood and beyond.”
